Sharlyand Utilities DC Tie Underway

Plans for the Sharyland Utilities L.P. new 150 megawatt High Voltage Direct Current Tie continues to progress after the ground breaking ceremony on May 8th at Sharyland Plantation.

The project will link the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid with the Mexican national grid, maintained by the Comision Federal de Electricidad.

The first of its kind in Texas, the cross-border tie will support emergency power and commercial business activity in Texas and Mexico. It will allow for two-way electricity transfers between both grids which means each grid can rely on the other during peak times, thus increasing reliability of both. The DC Tie will also increase economic development by binding Texas and Mexico together. Undoubtedly, the technological and economic benefits of this tie will be felt in Mission, along with the entire Valley and northern Mexico.
